What happens to an EHCP after school
✔ Checked October 2026No. An EHCP can continue up to age 25 if you stay in education or training and still need the support.
From Year 9, annual reviews should focus on four areas: employment, independent living, friends and community, and good health. Your plan should include outcomes that help you get ready for adult life.
From the end of the school year in which you turn 16, you have the right to make decisions about your EHCP yourself, with support from your family if you want it.
You can ask for a meeting, use mediation, and appeal some decisions to the SEND Tribunal. Your local SENDIASS service gives free, independent advice.
